To strengthen communities, empower families, and inform citizens, the Community Idea Stations use the power of media to educate, entertain and inspire. About The Community ... See more Idea Stations Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, the Community Idea Stations are a division of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting. The Community Idea Stations own three public television stations—two in Richmond (WCVE PBS & WCVW PBS) and one in Charlottesville (WHTJ PBS)—and WCVE Public Radio which reaches listeners in Richmond, Heathsville, Chase City and their surrounding communities. These are the largest locally-owned and operated radio and television stations in the region. Every week we reach more than 400,000 people throughout central Virginia of every age, demographic and economic circumstance. Every day we use our human and capital resources to fulfill our mission. Our community impact is concentrated into five different categories of interest: * Children’s Education * News & Public Affairs * Science & Discovery * History & Heritage * Arts & Culture In this digital age, there are hundreds of stations on the dial. We are committed to using our air time and assets to make a positive impact on the communities we serve. In every interest category, we do this in three different ways: * We bring high quality ,nationally-acclaimed, innovative PBS and NPR programming to central Virginia. * We support, promote and showcase community assets and issues through our locally produced programs and outreach efforts. * We work with parents ,caregivers and K-12 teachers in more than 500 schools to train them to use our educational programs and technology to teach children. Our budget is approximately $8.4 million per year. Some of our funding comes from taxpayer dollars and from earned income. But most is given by individuals and businesses who believe in our mission, the quality of the content we provide, and the importance of a non-commercial choice in the ever-growing media landscape. ------ Shows: A Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, Car Talk (NPR), Fresh Air (NPR), Marketplace, NPR's Morning Edition, On the Media, Piano Jazz, Riverwalk Jazz, The Thistle & Shamrock, This American Life, Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me, Weekend All Things Considered, Weekend Edition Saturday, Weekend Edition Sunday, Performance Today, Blues Before Sunrise, With Heart and Voice, Pipe Dreams, Metropolitan Opera, Folk Sampler, Saint Paul Sunday, Mountain Stage, Classical Music, Classical Music with Bobbie Barajas, Jazz with Peter Solomon, Out of the Blue Radio Revue, Time for the Blues, WCVE-FM Classical Music ----- Hosts: Michele Norris, Robert Siegel, Melissa Block, Tom Magliozzi, Ray Magliozzi, Kai Ryssdal, Steve Chiotakis, Jeremy Hobson, Renee Montagne, Steve Inskeep, Dorothy Hickson, Carlos Rosado, Richard Knox, Not Found, David Holt, Jim Cullum, Ira Glass, Jessica Hopper, Alex Blumberg, Peter Sagal Sagal, Carl Kasell Kasell, Guy Raz, Scott Simon, Audie Cornish, Terry Gross, Michael Barone, Mike Flynn, Bill Mcglaughlin, Larry Groce, Bobbie Barajas, Peter Solomon, Page Wilson, Henry Cook, John Porter
